This dedicated group of individuals oversee the gift shop, the information desk, and serve as greeters in the Social Services department. In addition, they have a beautification committee that plants flowers in the courtyard and assist with decorating the hospital for holidays. Through the hosting of various fund raisers throughout the year, the Auxiliary offers an annual nursing scholarship and makes generous donations to the hospital for various projects and equipment needs.

UMH Hospice

This group of volunteers serve a special role for our patients who are in hospice care. The volunteer may sit with a patient while their caregiver runs errands or simply visit the patient to talk, play cards, and provide companionship. In this way, the volunteer is there to help bring comfort and support to the patient and family. Hospice volunteers also deliver flowers to patients’ homes every week. Clerical opportunities at the Hospice office is also greatly appreciated.

Opportunities for students include, obtaining service hours, completing intern or externships, and/or observing in a specific area of the hospital to help determine a future career path. Clinical and nonclinical departments are available for volunteer opportunities.

Uvalde Living

Uvalde Living Img.jpgSituated at the base of the Hill Country, Uvalde is considered the "best kept secret in the West." It is the honey capital of the world, which means our Southern charm comes naturally. Also known as the "tree city," it is one of the few places you will find hundred year old trees growing in the middle of the roads. Spectacular spring flowers and amazing autumn colors are the backdrop to all out adventures. We host tourists year-round with a variety of summer activities and dove, deer, and turkey hunting in the fall. A short commute to San Antonio yeilds world-class shopping and dining. After a day of cosmopolitian adventure, return home to rural America where running home for lunch every day and raising a family in a small town atmosphere is completely feasible. Uvalde is proud to be home to former Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe and former United States Vice-President John Nance Garner. Rich in history but always looking to the future, the community of Uvalde constantly strives to remain economically strong. Nestled in the subtle Texas Hill Country, it is small town hospitality at its finest.
