New Partnership with Allergy Services of America

Every three minutes, a food-related allergic reaction sends someone to the emergency room in the U.S. With one in three Americans suffering from some form of allergy, Dr. James Kelly, medical director of Sabinal Health Clinic, is thrilled to be partnering with Dr. Ryan Sullivan and Allergy Services of America to take an active role in diagnosing and treating allergies in our community.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, allergies affect as many as 30 percent of adults and 40 percent of children. Allergic disease, including asthma, is the third most common chronic disease in children under 18 years.

Dr. Kelly, who is a board-certified family medicine physician, said he recognizes that allergies to food, drugs, the environment or other triggers can have potentially adverse consequences for thousands of children, adults and seniors.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital’s Sabinal Health Clinic has partnered with Allergy Services of America to offer allergy and immunology services to our region beginning June 15.

Allergy Services of America (ASA) brings with them Ryan Sullivan, M.D., medical director, and Abdul Ibrahim, E.V.P., director of clinical allergy services. With combined experience of over 50 years, ASA will bring unprecedented allergy services to our five county service region.

“I am excited to partner with Allergy Services of America; this type of expansion and medical service line is certainly needed in our area. We’ll work together to find out what a patient is allergic to and come up with a treatment plan to alleviate symptoms,” Kelly said.

Patients will be tested for 60 different types of allergy triggers, including: tree, grass and weed pollen, mold spores, cats and dogs, environmental substances, food and fungus. “Diagnosing and managing allergic conditions, particularly in children and in adults who suffer from environmental allergies, is especially important here,” Kelly added.

“Partnering with Dr. Sullivan and Allergy Services of America and making allergy testing easily accessible to our community is important to us,” said Tom Nordwick, Uvalde Memorial Hospital CEO.

Sabinal Health Clinic and Allergy Services of America grand opening will be held Tuesday, June 15th from 3-5pm at Sabinal Health Clinic. Refreshments and prizes will be offered during the open house. This event is free and open to the public. The Sabinal Health Clinic is currently accepting new patients. For clinic hours, or to set up an appointment, please call (830) 988-2580.
