Uvalde Memorial Hospital Accepting Three New Insurances

New Insurances Part of New Medicaid Changes

Starting March 1, 2012, STAR managed care will expand to serve Texas Medicaid clients in 164 rural counties. STAR is a Texas Medicaid managed care program for people living in certain counties, including Uvalde County.

The Medicaid Rural Service Area (Medicaid RSA) STAR program will serve clients who are currently covered by the Primary Care Case Management program-if they have Medicaid only. Children age 20 and younger with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may choose between managed care and traditional Medicaid.  Clients of any age who have both Medicaid and Medicare will be covered by traditional Medicaid.

Amerigroup, FirstCare, and Superior are all insurance providers providing coverage to Uvalde and its neighboring counties, including Edwards, Kinney, Real, and Zavala counties.  Uvalde Memorial Hospital is currently accepting all three insurances.  Uvalde and Medical Surgical Associates’ physicians, cardiologist Dr. K.N. Anwar, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jack A. Conoley, and general surgeon Dr. Sandra Boenig are also currently accepting the insurances.

For help filling out Medicaid paperwork, please call Uvalde Memorial Hospital’s Social Services department at (830) 278-6251 and dial extensions 1308 or 1309 or come into the Social Services office at the hospital.  Links to more helpful information can also be found at www.umhtx.org.  You can also call the Texas Health and Human Services Commission at 1-800-964-2777 (TTY 1-800-267-5008).  You can call Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time.
