Preparing for the Hospital
The average stay for a mom and baby is 1-2 nights for regular vaginal birth and 3-4 nights for a cesarean birth. You will feel more comfortable and confident if you have your hospital bag prepared ahead of time.
The following is a helpful list of what you could bring:
1. You can bring your favorite pillow from home for your comfort
2. Slippers for walking around the hospital
3. Two pairs of socks in case your feet get cold during your hospital stay
4. Robe
5. Extra underwear
6. You can bring your nightgown if you prefer. The hospital provides gowns with breastfeeding easy access.
7. Nursing or support bra
8. Hairbrush and hair ties if you want to keep your hair away from your face
9. Money (loose change) for vending machines or meal for your support person.
10. Address book or phone list of family and friends to call when your baby is born
11. Camera or video recorder (Please check our hospital policy for use of these)
12. Massage accessories such as lotion, oils, or balls
13. You can bring a relaxation CD with player to help you relax during labor
14. Birthing ball for aiding the labor process
15. Toiletries
16. Going home outfit for mom (it is recommended to bring something that fit you around your fifth month of pregnancy)
17. Going home outfit for your baby (onesie, booties, etc.)
18. Blanket for your baby
19. Diapers
20. Most important of all, bring a carseat for your baby. You can not take your baby home without one.
21. A stopwatch or watch with a second hand to time contractions
