Taking Baby Out
Taking your baby out of the home can be very nerve wrecking. Here
are some tips to help you plan.
- Start by planning short trips away from home.
- Keep it simple-dress your baby with the same or maybe one extra layer of clothing as yourself.
- Check diaper bag to make sure you have everything your baby may need. Take a receiving blanket, socks, cap, or sweater in case of sudden temperature changes, and an extra change of clothes in case the baby gets dirty.
- Make sure you and your baby are feeling well. Feed your baby and change your baby's diaper before leaving.
- Use a car seat on every trip, no matter how short. Use a rear-facing car seat suitable for infants weighing under 20 pounds. Car seat must be installed in the back seat of the car and secured tightly. Roll small blankets and place them to the sides of baby's head to keep the head from falling forward or rolling from side to side.
- NEVER PUT YOUR CHILD IN A CAR SEAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH AN AIRBAG. IT CAN KILL YOUR CHILD UPON IMPACT.
- Have a certified car seat installer check for proper installation.
- Never leave your baby unattended anywhere.
