UMH Awarded Grant For Covid-19 Protect Our Heroes

Uvalde Memorial Hospital’s (UMH) COVID-19 Protect Our Heroes campaign received a $15,000 grant from The Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation. UMH will use this donation to provide personal protection supplies, equipment and program needs related to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation is honored to support Uvalde Memorial Hospital’s COVID-19 Protect Our Heroes campaign. My cousin, Kate, would greatly admire the hospital’s commitment to the people of her hometown of Uvalde during this pandemic,” says Dolph Briscoe IV, president of the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation. “With great skill, Uvalde Memorial Hospital has cared for patients for almost one hundred years, and it is again answering its community’s call to service in a time of unprecedented need.”

The Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation was established in 2008 to honor the memory of Janey Katherine “Kate” Marmion by her mother, Janey Briscoe Marmion, and her grandfather, Governor Dolph Briscoe, Jr. The mission of the Kate Marmion Charitable Foundation is to encourage, support and promote people, places, and programs in Uvalde and the greater South Texas area that were important to Kate and her family, specifically children’s interests, education, agriculture, and Southwestern American history, culture, art, and literature.

“We deeply appreciate receiving this grant to support our medical care teams and patients as we face the current challenges in providing healthcare in our rural area,” said Sheri Rutledge, UMH development specialist. “This donation is a tangible reminder that we are not fighting alone and the foundation’s support continues a longstanding philanthropic investment by the Briscoe family in UMH’s mission and we value their leadership.”
