“UMH’s major gift campaign will provide critically needed equipment and technology for the diagnosis, best possible outcomes, attentiveness, and comfort care for our patients, their families, visitors and medical care teams,” said Sheri Rutledge, UMH development specialist. “The gift in honor of Mrs. Carpenter is the largest single contribution that UMH has ever received and we are incredibly thankful to the Carpenters and honored to receive their continued support. We know that the Cele Briscoe Carpenter Imaging Center will be a tremendous asset to our patients and staff.”

The elements of the campaign include:

  • A new Nurse Call System with up-to-date facility-wide interactive communication equipment and technology offered by Jeron Nurse Call Gateway Integration HCI with Beckwith;
  • A new Patient Monitoring system will provide seamless and immediate hospital-wide communication and will also integrate with Electronic White Boards to provide up-to-date information. This system will also include call systems for shower, toilet, bed, crib, and wall;
  • A Cableless Fetal Monitoring system will allow continuous tracking of up-to-the-minute information on the health of the expectant mothers and their babies and will drastically improve and enhance workflow and strengthen the best possible birth care;
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scanner;
  • Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanner;
  • Art for Healing and Wellbeing: A hospital-wide art initiative for patients, families, and staff to help reduce stress and loneliness, improve health and healing, and create compassionate care spaces filled with inspiration and peace. A fountain and garden area at the entrance of the new hospital is also included in the initiative.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Carpenter family, Uvalde and the surrounding counties will continue to have access to state-of-the-art imaging which rivals those of the most advanced hospital systems in the world,” said Jared Reading, M.D., UMH radiologist. “The high quality equipment will lead to more accurate and rapid diagnosis of emergency and chronic conditions. UMH imaging center will continue to be the envy of surrounding hospital systems thanks to this donation.”

“When the Uvalde Hospital reached out to our family regarding their Better Health Begins Here campaign, we knew we wanted to participate in a meaningful way,” said Benjamin Carpenter. “My siblings and I are proud to make this contribution in honor of our mother who was raised in Uvalde and knows how important UMH is to that region of Texas.”

“Our family has consistently supported Uvalde Memorial Hospital over the years and this is a wonderful continuation of our partnership with UMH,” said Cele Briscoe Carpenter. “I’m excited about the new hospital and know it will benefit the people of Uvalde and Southwest Texas for generations to come.”
